No-exam life insurance

Who qualifies for accelerated underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you do not.

Many carriers have accelerated underwriting paths now: applicants within age and amount bands who qualify can be approved using their application, pharmacy records, driving history and other data instead of a paramedical exam. Decisions can arrive the same day. Each quote indicates whether an exam is needed, may be needed, or is not needed.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting does not skip verification. Your answers get checked, and policies issued on false answers can be challenged within the first two years. The carrier may still request testing if something in their records looks unusual; you can decide whether to move forward at that point.

Who tends to qualify

Typically people under about 60 with amounts under the carrier's limit, no serious health background, and no tobacco in the past year or longer. Lab results from a recent doctor's visit can replace an exam with some carriers.

An exam, when needed, is typically 20 to 30 minutes with a paramedical tech at your home or workplace in the Covina area, at no cost to you. For many healthy applicants, exam results actually improve a rate class, so the exam is not a downside.
